ON Feb 4, 1892, Olive M. CURTIS, dau of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. CURTIS, and E.C. AILOR of Stella, Nebraska, were united in marriage at the home of her parents. After the ceremony the young couple left for their new home at Haddam, Kansas. They lived on a farm near Haddam for many years, but in later years they have maintained their home in town where Wednesday, they received the congratulations and best wishes from their many friends.

The couple has been identified as prosperous farmers of this community and also as business leaders, having for several years owned and operated the City Hotel of Haddam. Mrs. AILOR is the eldest of her family having been born in Hartford City, Indiana, and came with her parents to southeastern Nebraska, where her aged mother, Mrs. A. J. CURTIS still resides. However, due to inclement weather, her mother was unable to be present at the celebration. Mr. AILOR came from his birthplace in Anamosa, Iowa and is the only surviving member of a pioneer family of southeastern Nebraska, also. Mr. and Mrs. AILOR are the parents of an only daughter, Hazel, who is the wife of Dr. Vernon DAVIS of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, also the grandparents of Virginia DAVIS MILLS, the wife of Lieut. Francis B. MILLS of Fort Sill, OK. The fifth generation on the maternal side is represented by Cyntha Ann MILLS, the baby daughter of Lieut. and Mrs. MILLS.

Open house was held at the AILOR home, Wednesday. Mrs. Veron DAVIS received the guest at the door. Mrs. John C. PATTERSON adn Mrs. Caroline B. SMITH of Clay Center, poured in the dining room. Mrs. E.R. MARTS, Nebraska City, presided at the guest book.

Mrs. E.C. AILOR wore a gold broach that adorned her wedding gown fifty years ago. Mr. and Mrs. AILOR received many lovely gifts, flowers, letters, cards and telegrams congradulating them on this memorable event. In the evening a lovely six o'clock dinner was served to the immediate members of the family.

Title:RUSSELL
Article:Death closed the career of an exemplary citizen in the passing of A. R. RUSSELL who lived northwest of Haddam, at 1:37 Monday morning, Dec 21. He suffered a stroke ten years ago and although her has been able to work about his farm, during the last few years he was gradually failing. He suffered another stroke about a week ago and his condition grew worse until the end came. Albert Ray RUSSELL was born Oct. 18, 1864 in Lee Co, Iowa and departed this life at his home northeast of Haddam, Kansas, on Monday, Dec 21, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 3 days. He is the last member of a family of four, one brother and two sisters having preceded him in death. Mr. RUSSELL came to Kansas in 1892 and has spent the remainder of his life here. On Nov 16, 1982 he was united in marriage to Mabel SPRADLING. For the first five years of their married life they lived on a farm near Mahaska, then moved to their present home where they have lived for forty-five years. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. Stella JAMES of Eugene, OR, Ray RUSSELL of Haddam and Myrtle of the home, all of who survive him besides Mrs. Bessie STARMER of Eugene, OR, a daughter by a previous marriage. One daughter, Nora A, died at the age of one year. Mr. RUSSELL became a member of the local Masonic Order and has held a continuous membership in the Order for more than 44 years. He was kind and true husband and father who will be sadly missed by his wife and children, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The passing of the older residents of the community always brings a tinge of sadness. Mr. RUSSELL was a man of pronounced ideas and convictions of right and duty. In his active years he was a progressive farmer and was successful in his efforts in producing fine livestock and productive crops. He was proud of his family and his home, and to his neighbors and friends, he will be remembered as an honest, industrious citizen. Funeral services were conducted Wed. afternoon at the Haddam Methodist Church by teh Rev. DEWEESE of the Blocker Church. The Haddam Masonic order conducted the final rites at the graveside in the Haddam Cemetery.

Title:DARBY  
Article:Asa Roy DARBY , the son of Rufus and Belinda DARBY, was born Aug 25, 1847 in Belmont Co, Ohio and died at his home in Morrowville, on Mar 18, 1841 , at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 23 days. He came with his parents to Marshall Co, Iowa in 1855. The family moved to the Territory of Kansas in 1858, settling in Washington Co, where he has since made his home, except for one year which was spent in Oregon. He was married to Miss Clara HAWORHT, Sept 4, 1887 at Washington, KS. To this union three children were born, Vernon Roy DARBY of Morrowville, Mrs. Winnifred May MENZIES of Washington, and Herbert Willis DARBY of Washington. Mrs. DARBY died Jan9, 1904. He was married to Miss Sara GARRETT, Jan 11, 1912 at Morrowville, KS. He is survived by his wife, his children, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends. He was a faithful and loyal member of the Methodist church for many years. Funeral Services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. I.C. WILLARD at the Methodist church, on Thursday afternoon and interment was made in the Morrowville Cemetery.

Title:ELDER
Article:Harry Franklin ELDER, son of H.H. and Sarah Elizabeth ELDER, was born at Knoxville, Iowa on Jan 29, 1865 and departed this life at the Rice Hospital at Odell, Nebraska. Aged 77 years, 11 months and 7 days. His early childhood was spent in Iowa, but in 1869 he with his parents migrated to Kansas, locating in Osborne Co, near Alton and in 1875 they came to Washington Co, where the father bought 320 acres of land in Coleman township. There the children attended the Rock School. The family home was large and spacious and there they welcomed friends and strangers to share thier hospitality. In 1894 the family moved from this county to Washington State with the exception of Harry F. who was united in marriage to Miss Addie E. PURSLEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. PURLSEY of Morrowville, KS. This union was blessed with ten children who all grew to manhood and womanhood. They are as follows: Mrs Eva B. PHELPS, Salina, KS; Guy F. ELDER, Morrowville, KS; Glenn W. ELDER, Harry F. Jr., Mrs Hazel V. STAMM and Mrs. Beulah M. STAMM, all of Washington, Mrs. Anna DECKER, Hollenberg, Mrs. Lola B. MAHLMAN, Hollenberg, Mrs. Alma E. BRANDON, Kansas City, KS. The youngest son Walter Donald passed away in 1935. Mr. ELDER was raised a Seventh Day Adventist, and united with the church in early manhood.

He attended Battle Creek, Michigan College in the winter of 1884 and 1885, and was always interested in education, social and moral uplift. He was a man of excellent character, honest and upright in his dealings with his fellowman. He was a farmer and stock raiser all his life with the exception of four years spent in the mercantile business at Walsburg, KS. He is survived by his wife and nine children and 25 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna F. BISSELL, two brothers, W.C. ELDER, Spooner, WI and Chas. S. ELDER, Kodiak, Alaska, also many other relatives and a host of friends who have enjoyed his generous kindly attitude toward all with whom he met. Funeral services were conducted from the Washington Christian Church with Rev. GALLOWAY in charge, assisted by L.R. RISWIG of Topeka, on Saturday, at 2 o'clock and interment was in the Washington City cemetery.

Title:Marjorie Juanita Lightbody
Article:Marjorie Juanita BEAM, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant BEAM was born near Harbine, Jan 21, 1919 and passed away July 15, 1941 at the age of 22 years, 5 months and 18 days. When she was four years old, she moved with her parents to a farm near Washington, Kansas, where she lived until she was 17 years old. At that time the family moved to another farm near Fairbury.

She graduated from the Fairbury high school in 1938, and married Keith LIGHTBODY, Nov 29, 1939. She had become a member of the Church of Christ in 1932. Surviving are her husband; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant BEAM of Fairbury; and a sister Mrs. Donald OBERHELM of Green, KS. Funeral services for Mrs. LIGHTBODY were held Thursday afternoon from the Christian Church, Rev. W. J. HENSLEY of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial was at the Fairbury Cemetery.

Title:ODGERS
Article:Lewis Henry ODGERS, oldest son of James and Rhoda ODGERS, was born June 11, 1875 on his father's homestead in Grant township, Washington Co, Kansas and died July 12, 1944 at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 1 day. He spent his entire life on the farm living in various locations in Washington County,, until last September, when he moved to the home in Haddam. On March 2, 1904, he was united in marriage to Emma PIERCE of Haddam, KS. To this union was born two sons, Carl F., of Anchorage, Alaska and Lester B. of Kodiak, AK. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and always ready to lend a helping hand whenever he could. His health began to fail about two years ago. He suffered a stroke four weeks ago and gradually grew weaker until her quietly passed away. He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving companion of more than forty years, who cared for him tenderly through his failing health, also two sons, one grandson, Gerald Odgers, of Plains, KS, one sister, Mrs. Mima PICKARD, Haddam, KS, three brothers, Bryon ODGERS of Washington, KS; Wallace of Knoxville, Iowa and Lloyd Odgers of Clyde, KS besides many nieces, nephews, and many relatives and friends. Music and vocal duets, by Mrs. John BRICK and Misses Betty WILLIAMS and LaNae LANDIS. Pallbearers, Walter ZENGER, Ralph BURT, Frank BURT, Mart BURTON, Sam BURTON, and Wm. SEXTON. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur ODGERS and sons, Throop, KS, Clarence ODGERS and son, Elmer, Enosdale, KS, Eldon ODGERS, Washington, KS, Mr and Mrs. Walter ALLEN, Clyde, KS, Mrs. Rebecca MERKLEY, Starke, Florida, Mr and Mrs. Bert SHAFFER, Clifton, KS, Mr. and Mrs. Marion SHAFFER, Clifton, KS, Mr and Mrs Glen FOX and daughter from Belleville, KS, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. ODGERS, Salina, KS, and Mr. and Mrs. John ODGERS, Linn, KS. Mrs. ODGERS and her family extend thanks to all the friends and neighbors for their help and many kindnesses during this time of sickness and bereavement. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Haddam Methodist church with the Rev. Chas. E. REED in charge. Interment was made at the Haddam cemetery.

Title:THRAP (notice spelling variation)
Article:Henry K. THARP was born Oct 6, 1854 in Iowa and departed this life , Feb 22, 1939 at the home of his son G.E. THRAP at Wymore, NE. He was a very successful farmer in his early life. He was united in marriage when a young man to Elizabeth POWELL in Iowa. Mr.and Mrs. THRAP moved to Odell, NE, where they settled on a farm. To this union six children were born, three boys and three girls. About 8190 he moved with his family to Washington, Kansas, later moving to Haddam, where he worked at several different occupations. For twenty years he carried the mail in Haddam. Mr. THRAP lived in Haddam until a few months before his death. Mrs. THRAP preceded him in death in Jan, 1937. During his life, Mr. THRAP was a splendid singer and enjoyed singing in the choir and assisted in singing for many funerals. He was a very kind, generous, and loving father, ever seeking to give the best to his family. His friends will remember him as a helpful friend and a valable asset to his community. His life among his friends will not soon be forgotten. He leaves to mourn his passing. two daughters and two sons, namely Estella SMITH of California, Almeda LAHODNEY of Beatrice, Nebraska, G.E. THRAP of Wymore, NE; F.M. THRAP of Fairmont, NE and many other friends and relatives. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Haddam Church by the Rev. MITCHELL. Interment was made in the Haddam Cemetery

Title:WOODS
Article:John W. WOODS, the fourth child of Henry and Orpha WOODS was born near the town of Red Oak, in Montgomery Co, Iowa, on Dec 2, 1892 and departed this life on July 4, 1944 near Hiawatha, Kansas. When he was a small child, his parents moved to Missouri. A few years later they came to Washington Co, settling in the Blocker neighborhood. When a young man he attended Sunday School and Church in Washington, KS, uniting with the Presbyterian Church in Washington. On June 26, 1928, he was united in marriage to Helen Clara WALTERS and to this union three children were born. His father and mother, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Helen, and three sons, Jerry Keith, Jimmy Wayne and Donald Charles, all of the home, one sister, Mrs. Catherine SHAW or Morrowville, three brothers, Ralph of Griswold, Iowa, Roy of Broodview, Montana, Dave of Washington, KS and a host of other relatives and friends. Although John was not the oldest son of his parents, her was the one on whom the family leaned. Through his mother's long illness he showered her with great devotion and patient loving care. John was a strong, steady , quiet type of person, a tireless worker with plenty of courage. He was tender-hearted, always ready to help anyone who needed him, no matter what the cost and with no thought of sparing himself. His business associates remarked on his honesty and square dealing. He had worked hard and diligently to build his business with the hope that he and his sons would operate it together The funeral service was held Friday afternoon, July 7, at 3 o'clock at the Methodist Church in Morrowville, Rev. J. Holland VERNON in charge. Interment was made in the Morrwville Cemetery.

Article:Ida Elizabeth LESHER, daughter of David and Eliza LESHER was born near Shippensburg, Pennsylania, May 11, 1861 and departed this life, Dec 22, 1930 at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 11 days. She moved with her parents near Odebalt, Iowa, at the age of 16, living there until her marriage. She was united in marriage with Elmer ELLSWORTH LESHER, Oct 22, 1882 at Sac City, Iowa, and moved to Kansas in 1884. To this union, four daughters were born, two dying in infancy. She spent the remainder of her life in and near Haddam. Her husband preceded her in death June 20, 1929. She leaves to mourn two daughters, Mrs. Blanche WILLIAMS and Mrs. Norma WILLIAMS both of Haddam, three granddaughters, Eleanor, Irva and Betty WILLIAMS, a brother, Frank LESHER and two sisters, Mrs. Mary LEVEL of Dennison, Iowa and Mrs. Naomi STARR of Calgary, Canada, also a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Haddam. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the M.P. Church, Rev. SNARE conducting the services. Interment was made in the city cemetery.

Title:Mary Jane Graves

Article:Mary Jane Downey, eldest child of David and Elizabeth Downey, was born near Davis City, Iowa, Jan. 14, 1875 and departed this life in the Decatur county hospital March 17, 1961, being 86 years, 2 months and three days of age.

Nov. 26, 1898, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Graves, who passed away Dec. 17, 1959. To this union six children were born: Earl of Leon; James O. and Dale of Webster City; Clella Opal Pickering of Garden Grove, Ca.; Forrest of Lamoni, and Ellen Dunbar of Duncombe, Iowa.

She and her husband were baptized into the Holden Baptist church Jan. 25, 1914.

She lived on a farm with her family near Davis City until 1929 when they moved to a farm near Lamoni. In 1932 they moved to the college farm, and remained here until ill health forced Mr. Graves to retire. They moved to Lamoni and remained here until her husband's death. In July, 1958, she fell and broke her left hip from which she never recovered. For almost two years she was faithfully cared for in the home by her husband and children. Since his death she has been confined to her bed in the Frost Nursing home in Leon.

In March, 1948 she was baptized into the RLDS church, to which she remained faithful to the end.

Mrs. Graves was a kind, loving wife, mother and friend. She was always willing to help care for those who were ill, and assist those who needed help in any way. Her greatest concern was for her family and neighbors. Her greatest joy in life was having her home filled with the children and grandchildren.

PICKERING HAD BEEN IN FAILING HEALTH FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, BUT HAD BEEN SERIOUSLY ILL ONLY SINCE SHE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK LAST TUESDAY. THE PICKERING FAMILY MOVED HERE FROM LEON ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND AND 11 CHILDREN WHO WERE ALL PRESENT DURING HER LAST ILLNESS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT 2:30 WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE SLADE FUNERAL HOME AT LEON. BURIAL WAS AT LEON.

Article:I am posting this obit from Elizabeth Case (maiden name Johns) with the hopes someone has more info on this family who lived in Ottawa during the late 1800's and early 1900's. I am not sure what paper this came from but it is dated 11-13-08.

Mrs. Elizabeth Case, age 78 years, mother of Charles Case of Ottawa, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. M. E. Thomas in Ft Madison Iowa. The remains arrived in Ottawa for burial on Tuesday morning, The funeral was held from the residence of Charles Case Wednesday afternoon with interment in Ottawa Avenue cemetery. Two daughters and four son's survive her.

Title:Nanna E. LONG CRAMER Obituary
Article:Sadness again has come to the community when it was learned of the sudden passing of Mrs. George CRAMER of Washington, formerly of the Iowa Creek community. About two weeks ago she underwent a critical operation at the Clay Center Municipal Hospital. She apparently was getting along well on the road to recovery, and her children who had been at her bedside, had returned to their homes, when she suddenly pasted away early Saturday morning.

Mrs. CRAMER possessed a quiet, modest nature. Her home was always open to her relatives and friends, who will treasure her memory as a kind and gentle woman.

Nanna E. LONG, daughter of Henderson and Catherine LONG was born in Washington Co, Kansas, July 1, 1874, and departed this life at the Clay Center hospital, Dec. 18, 1942, at the age of 68 years 5 months and 17 days. She was one of a family of six children, two of whom died in infancy.

She was married to John L. YOUNG in Nov, 1902, who passed away on Dec 21, 1928. To this union six children were born.

On Dec 29, 1930 she was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to George J. CRAMER, who with her children survive her.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, George J. Cramer; her children, Lambert H. YOUNG and Leonard J. YOUNG of Haddam, KS, Jessie Irene WOODS, Verlester Evelyn MITCHELL and Electa Grace BARTLETT of Washington, KS, and Gladys BABBIT of Pittsburg, KS; two sisters Mrs. Mary R. COX of Oklahoma City, OK, Mrs. Jessie K. TAYLOR of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, John C. LONG of Haddam, KS; ten grandchildren and many friends.

A loving wife and mother and a good woman has made her peace with God and gone to her reward.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hill-George Funeral Home by Rev. DEWEESE of the Blocker Church. Interment was made in Blocker Cemetery.

Article:Agnes Christina PALMER, was born near Maquoketa, Jackson Co, Iowa, Dec 6, 1854 and passed to the great beyond , Sept 29th, 1932, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 23 days. She was united in marriage to David Smith LESHER at Sac City, IA, Apr 5, 1876. They came by way to the covered wagon, she driving the team, while her husband and his brother, John, drove their cattle. They crossed the Missouri river at Plattsmouth by way of ferry boat. They located two and one half miles northwest of Haddam, KS, and in Feb, 1895 they moved to their farm one and one half miles northeast of Morrowville, Kansas. There they lived until her husband passed away March 3, 1927. Since then she has made her home in Morrowville, KS. She was affiliated with the Methodist Protestant Church at Haddam, KS where she led an active Christian life. Her membership was transferred to the Methodist church at Morrowville where she remained a faithful follower of her Savior until she was called home. She leaves to follow D. E. LESHER of Stockton, CA, Bertha of the home, Mrs. Ethel NYE, Manhattan, KS, Cecil S. LESHER, San Bernardino, CA and thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother, J.E. PALMER, Lake City, IA , other relatives and a host of friends.

Article:Another pioneer wife and mother passed away, Thursday, June 29th, 1933 a 9 o'clock in the evening. Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth ELSE passed away in her home at Haddam at the age of 77 years, 5 months. Sarah Elizabeth VAN BUSKIRK was born Jan 29th, 8156 in Moulton, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to John Quincy ELSE, feb 20th, 1876. To this union were born four children, N.C. ELSE of Osborne, Kansas, Mrs. Olive KRISAN of Haddam, C.C. ELSE of Casper, WY and D. H. ELSE of Chicago, all of whom survive her, she also leaves to mourn her death one brother, George VAN BUSKIRK of Ottuma, Iowa, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She and her husband came to Kansas as pioneers in a covered wagon nearly 50 years ago. Knowing all the hardships and privations of pioneer life she was ever brave and cheerful always ready with a helping hand and a hearty smile.

While in her young womanhood she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Brethern Church. Of a quiet home loving nature she devoted her time to her family and endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact, she will be sadly missed by those near and dear to her, but her Christian faith and noble life will leave a memory that will linger and will be an inspiration for higher and nobler things.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Morrowville at 2:30, Aug 8, and interment was made in the Morrowville Cemetery.

Article:Ivan Jacob, the oldest son and the fifth child of Ralph and Ella HALFERTY was born on a farm five and one half miles northeast of Haddam, Kansas on Sept 16, 1895. At the age of four years he moved with his parents to a farm five miles southeast of Haddam. His occupation was farming and mechanical work. In the fall of 1930 he moved to the home of his widowed sister, Mrs. Beulah CORBETT and helped her care for her home and two small children. He resided with her for twelve years, having moved about a year ago to his farm south east of Haddam, hwere he has since lived and assed at this place on Monday Jan. 24, 1944 at the age of 48 years. To mourn the loss of a dear, kind hearted loving son and brother are his aged mother, five sisters, and one brother, namely, Mrs. Stella STONE of Denver, Colorado Mrs. Jennie CARLSON, Haddam; Mrs. Belva TOWNS of Concordia, Mrs. Beulah CORBETT, Haddam, Mrs. Veda LESHER, Blanchard , Iowa, and Scott HALFERTY , Haddam. Besides his mother, sisters and brother he leaves six nephews and six nieces, who will deeply mourn the loss of Uncle Ivan. His father preceded him in death Mar 2, 1941. In early manhood he was baptized and united with the Christian church at Haddam He was a true friend,, never speaking ill of any one and ever ready to lend assistance when help was needed

Title:Edith Amelia HAINES
Article:Edith Amelia HAINES, the daughter of J. N. and Olive SPRAGUE, was born in Iowa in 1866. She came with her parents to Washington Co, Kansas homesteading in 1872. She grew to womanhood in this county and in 1883 she was married to Thomas CORNWELL. To this union three children were born; Earnest E., the son, who proceeded her in death, Myrtle E. DeVORSS and Lorena G. PIERSON, both of Denver, who are left to mourn.

She leaves besides the two daughters, one brother, F. E. SPRAGUE of Belleville, KS, and two grandchildren, Harlow DeVOSS of Los Angeles, California and Audry Jane McINTYRE of WV, and one great grandchild, Joyce A. DeVOSS.

Mrs. CORNWELL spent several years teaching in the Indiah schools in South Dakota, before moving to Denver, where she spent her last days. She was always cheerful and optomistic, though suffering greatly from asthma. She always had a kindly word or act, which endeared her to all who knew her.

She passed away at her home in Denver, Saturday, May 24, 1941. Services were conducted at the Haddam Methodist Church, Wed afternoon by the Rev. Mary Ellen LUTZ.

Interment was made in the Haddam Cemetery on the CORNWELL lot, the first lot laid out in the Haddam Cemetery, where Grandpa CORNWELL was buried in 1874. She was laid to rest beside her husband, Thomas CORNWELL, and two grandsons who proceeded her in death, many years ago. (this doesn't explain how come she was called Haines, perhaps she had a second husband ??????)

Article:Kate Emeline EARNEST, daughter of Jacob L. and Elizabeth ERNEST (notice spelling variation), was born at Centerville, Iowa, March 13, 1855, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.L. SAWIN on Nov 29, 1942. at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 16 days. In 1887 she moved to Washington, Kansas. On Oct 2 of that year she was united in marriage George CUPP. She was preceded in death by Mr. CUPP, who died Dec 5, 1926. To this union were born eight children all of whom survive. They are: Ernest CUPP of Eugene, OR, Glenn B. CUPP of Mulino, OR, William A. CUPP of Manhattan, KS, Waler (sp??) E. CUPP of Anacoda, MT, Mrs. Harry SAWIN (Edna) of Morrowville, KS, Mrs. Gustaf MATSON (Faith) of Salem, OR and Carl CUPP of Inglewood, CA. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, M.M. ERNEST of Washington, KS and one sister, Mrs. Alice BEGGS, of Morrowville, KS. Mrs. CUPP, united with the Methodist church in early girlhood and later transferred her letter to the Throop Evangelical Church of which she was stll a member. The first six years of her married life was spent in Ness Co, KS. In 1893 the family returned to Washington Co, which has since been her home. Most of the time being spent in the Morrowville community. Always a loyal friend, Grandma CUPP, as she was know to many , gave herself unsparingly for the comfort and pleasure of others. She met the adversities and pleasures of life with a remarkable spirit, and joked with her family and friends through the sickness even to the end. She was an unselfish and loving mother, and a good neighbor. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held at Ward's Funeral Home in Washington at 2pm., Dec 2, conducted by the Rev. GILBERT of Throop Evangelical Church and the Rev. VERON of Morrowville, Methodist church. Interment was made in the Washington cemetery.

KAYS was born in Pennsylvania, April 10, 1842 and died Apr 29, 1931 aged 89 years and 19 days. While a small boy he with his parents moved to Plattsvillle, WI. At the age of 19 years he enlisted for service in the Civil War in Co. "I" of the 10th Regiment at Plattswille, WI, serving his country 3 years, being honorably discharged in 1864. In 1866 he was married to Susan BECKER, and this same year they moved to Milan, Missouri. While living here their five children were born, their eldest Laura dying in infancy.

He and his family came to Morrowville, KS in 1888 where they lived for 15 years, then moving to Washington where he resided the remainder of his life. His wife peceded him in death in 1904 and his son, H. B., in 1927. He was converted in early youth and remained a loyal member of the M. E. Church until his passing away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.A. CORWIN.

He leaves to mourn his departure, two daughters and a son; Mrs. L.A. CORWIN, Washington, KS; Mrs. J.F. WINTERROWD , Morrowville, Ks; Mr. Gilbert S. KAYS, Los Angeles, California; also three brothers: James R. KAYS , Waterloo, Iowa, John L. KAYS, Des Moines, Iowa; George KAYS, Independence, Iowa, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Article:Haddam mourns the loss of another one of its oldest residents and business men in the passing of James M. TEAGUE, who passed away at his home in Haddam early Monday morning. Mr. TEAGUE came to Haddam in the early days and was privileged to watch the growth of the town and community for more than a half of century. Mr. TEAGUE's health had failed in the last year, but he still was able to get up and about the home until the last two weeks. James Madison TEAGUE, son of Samuel and Rachel TEAGUE was born in Moresville, IN, Aug 20, 1855. He departed form this life Monday, August 14, 1944 at the age of 88 years. 11 months and 24 days. Mr. TEAGUE's boyhood life was lived in Cass Co, MI. At an early age he moved to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Catherine COBBS of New Sharon, IA, Nov 25, 1878. In 1881, Mr. and Mrs. TEAGUE came to Washington Co, KS, in a covered wagon. Four years latter they moved to a farm four miles north east of Haddam. Four years later they moved to Haddam, where Mr. TEAGUE was engaged for many years as a livestock dealer. His interests reached out to every development that stood for growth and betterment of his town and community. He was a steadfast friend and comrade to all with whom he associated. And to his devoted wife, who to him has always been "Kate", she has been a most loving companion. Leaving to mourn his departure are his wife, a brother, William of Iola, KS, a sister, Sarah J. STEARNS, of Washington, KS and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Haddam church, with Rev. DEWEESE in charge. Interment was made in the Haddam Cemetery.

Title:Jacob E. KLING
Article:Jacob E. KLING was born in Baselland, Kanton Basel, Switzerland, June 15, 1860 and he passed away April 22, 1942 at his home in Haddam, Kansas

He came with his mother and sister, both now deceased, to be with his brother, Frank P. KLING, in New York State, in 1874. The sister, Mrs Elizabeth FRIES, made her home with him the last twelve years of her life, passing away five years ago.

On March 6, 1887, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann PACKER, at Beloit, Kansas. To this union two children were born; Mrs Emily LINDSLEY of Washington, KS and Albert KLING of Haddam, KS.

Mr. KLING spent most of his life in farming until the last few years he moved to Haddam to make his home. In early life he was baptized and confirmed in the Luthern Church. Later while living in Iowa, he united with the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow; two children; two grandchildren, Harold and Dorothy KLING; also his brother, Frank P. KLING of Washington, KS; niece and nephew and other relatives and many friends. Mr. KLING lived a quiet and useful life.

Funeral services were held at the home and at the Methodist church, on April 24th at 3 P.M. by Rev J. P. SNARE. Interment was made in the Haddam Cemetery.

Title:Emma Frances SKINNER
Article:Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Aug 14, at the Hardin Funeral home at 2 o'clock for Emma Frances SKINNER, who passed away on Aug 12, at the age of 81.

Rev. W.A. ODGEN of the First Brethern Church in Los Angeles, assisted by Mattie J. ADAMSON of the First Christian Church of Inglewood officiated and interment was in Inglewood Park.

Mrs. SKINNER was born Emma Frances HAWK, July 14, 1860 at North Bend, Iowa. On March 22, 1881 she married William D. SKINNER and to this union were born seven children. Six of the children are living. Gracie Maude, one daughter preceded her parents in death.

Five of the children were at the bedside of Mrs. SKINNER before she died. They are Mrs. Floy B. RHINE of Lemon Cove, CA, Mrs. Hazel ARNETT of Redonda Beach, Mrs. Lena MC ELMURRY of Los Angeles, W. D. SKINNER of Bellflower and Mrs. Ruth MC ELMURRY of Los Angeles. One daughter, Mrs. Ethel WILLIAMSON resides in Manhattan, KS.

Mrs. SKINNER also leaves 13 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, one brother, and a host of friends to mourn her death. She has been an ardent worker in the Inglewood First Christian Church since 1929. She was active in the church until two weeks before her death. - Inglewood Daily News.

The SKINNER family formerly lived on the W.J. JOHNSTON farm just south of Haddam.
